Current laws,\u00a0including descriptions in the Penal Code (1861),\u00a0indicate that offences involving sexual and\u00a0gender-based violence do not adequately address\u00a0women\u2019s experiences of violence, or reflect the\u00a0contemporary values of Myanmar society.\u00a0Additionally, legislative reform is needed to bring\u00a0the body of Myanmar\u2019s laws into greater\u00a0compliance with CEDAW 1 .
